Letter to the Yorkshire Post : Health and Safety
|
Dear Sir
Many thanks on everyone’s behalf for the excellent commonsense article by Sir Norman Bettison. Of course ‘health and safety’ takes many forms. FSA regulations, DEFRA, political correctness, EU directives, consumer protections etc etc.
May I, unusually speak in favour of the continental approach, certainly in the Mediterranean regions where a little pragmatism is applied to rules and regulations. Sadly health and safety and its equivalents are big business. Mr Jack in office is always available, unsackable, pension to die for, egged on by unscrupulous lawyers and shallow public service broadcasting journalism.
Notwithstanding Sir Norman’s commons sense, how much time do his officers spend enforcing the “health and safety mantra” when serious crime goes untackled?
Yours faithfully
