UKIP Achieve best-ever Parliamentary Election Result
|
The UK Independence Party rounded off its general election campaign in emphatic style by securing 2,675 votes - a share of 10.4% of the vote. This makes it UKIP's best ever vote share in a Parliamentary election, beating the 10.3% achieved in the Hartlepool by-election last year.
Staff from the Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire regional office played their part, as Tim Slater, Jonathan Arnott, Jane Collins and Emma Brader volunteered some of their time to help the last-minute push for votes.
The vote was an appalling night for Labour, as their share of the vote went down by 16.7% from 2001. Whilst UKIP took swathes of votes, the Conservative share of the vote actually increased. The result clearly shows that UKIP do not just take votes from ex-Conservatives, and a preliminary analysis of the result would suggest that the strong UKIP showing hit Labour hardest.
The rise in UKIP support shows that people want to send a clear message to Tony Blair about the EU, but will he listen?
