Celebrating Diversity on International Women’s Day
Speaking about International Women's day tomorrow, Godfrey Bloom MEP, the UK Independence Party spokesman on equality issues said, "Women do not need special laws, programmes or positive discrimination. Let’s just stand back, get out of their way, and let them get on with it, whatever ‘it’ is".

He went on, "I remember my father, a wartime spitfire pilot, enthusing once about a delivery pilot bringing one of the first Mosquitoes to a Squadron he had joined. Apparently the aeroplane had a reputation for being difficult to fly. The pilot performed a number of impressive aerobatics and then pulled off a perfect landing. The officers and men thought a crack combat pilot had been sent to demonstrate it. Out got a young woman. One of the many female delivery pilots attached to the Royal Air Force".

Though equality between men and women has made great legal strides in the past few decades current thinking on the issue is "stupid and patronising" he said, :the politically correct brigade, stuck in a 1970s time warp have moved women backwards.

When I board an aeroplane now I do not know if the female pilot is top notch, or part of a ‘quota’. Or she has won a case at a tribunal giving her time off from training to look after the baby?"
