Quality, not Quotas : 19th June 2006
|
For Immediate Release 19th June 2006
Today's comments by Trevor Philips highlight how out of touch the government and its client quangos are from the aspirations of normal people.
The call by the Chief of the Commission for Racial Equality to legalise positive discrimination for Blacks, Asians and ethnic minorities is yet another illustration of how blinkered the governing elite of this country really are.
Godfrey Bloom MEP, UK Independence Party spokesman on women and minorities slammed the comments, saying, "Trevor Philips' comments on the poverty of multiculturalism seemed sensible. However, with these statements he shows that he has not learnt or changed. Positive discrimination harms the very people it claims to help: Mr Philips is patronising those from different races and religions by implying that they cannot make it to the top on their own."
Mr Bloom continued: "People want to know that whether it is police officers, surgeons, pilots or bus drivers, that those people were appointed based on quality, not quotas."
Mr Philips said that the police were handicapped by the lack of Muslim officers in the police force. Note to editors
