SOS Kit Aid
Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire MEP Godfrey Bloom, a keen supporter of local rugby, in particular Pocklington School U15s for which his nephew Richard Skowronek plays, joins Richard’s of Howden in helping the charity SOS Kit Aid by arranging a collection of unwanted or outgrown rugby kit from schools and clubs.

Pocklington School under 15s start pre-season training in early September with the assistance of an ex- England Under 21 player and Grade 4 coach invited from Cambridge University and from 1 September schools and clubs can drop off their unwanted or outgrown rugby kit at Pocklington Rugby Club in time for a collection from SOS Kit Aid at the end of the month.

SOS Kit Aid then send it, with the help of the IRB, via bona fide country rugby federations to help the development of junior rugby in less advantaged countries by kitting out youngsters in Romania, Georgia and Moldova. They have hundreds of boys and girls desperate to play rugby but with an average wage of only £60 per month their parents simply cannot afford the kit.

Mr Bloom said “I have been a long time supporter of SOS Kit Aid. I have seen the benefits of playing rugby as children grow up with the game, the ability to learn teamwork and discipline, and feel that this should be available to children on a global scale. It is so easy to be able to offer them unwanted kit which is why I have arranged for a collection of kit at the rugby club.”
